Rumors

My best friend stood in a corner, talking to a large crowd. I stood near the punch table, temporarily swaying to the music. Disco lights flashed everywhere, illuminating people's happy faces, and making everything dark and tenebrous. Everyone's costumes glowed with either fright or ghostlyness. It was cool.

I finished my punch and got ready to disco when I heard my name spoken out loud by my best friend. I strode over and into the mob to see what was going on.

"I'm telling you! She throws her pets out of the window! And then she buries them in her backyard! That's why there are weeds everywhere! And there are red stains near her window! Nani is so cruel to pets!" Angela screamed so the whole audience could hear. Then I realised it. My best friend was spreading lies about me.

"How could you! I thought you were my friend!" I cried, tears rushing down my cheeks as Angela's eyes wandered to me, her face horrorstruck. Before she could say any more, I turned around and rushed out of the school.

Angela and I are totally different, but we became friends due to our rare similarities. We both love junk food, are procrastinators, and watch tv for like, forever! But though our similarities are few, our personalities have many differences. Angela is stuborn, a pessimist, a lier, a cheater, and (I just found out) a rumor spreader. On the other hand, I am a kind, sharing, truthful, helpful person. No wonder this happened! But why did she choose me...?

It's been 3 months since that dance, and her lies have spread. Now the whole school thinks I am an animal hater. After she spread those lies, we never talked to each other except an occational nod of disgust in the hallway.

After the dance, Angela caught up to me while I made a dash for the door. We talked for a minute before I took off again.

"Why are you spreading rumors?" I cried.

She eyed the small group of people who were looking at us, and then loud enough for them to hear, she said,

"I wasn't spreading RUMORS. I'm telling the truth. And I didn't start it!"

"You know what? Now I've realised that you are cruel and like to see others in pain. Change these rumors and I will never talk to you again, that way, we're both happy!" I yelled, and continued with my dash out of the school.

Since then, I've been sad and friendless. It's all Angela's fault. I hope she is happy about this. Will you be my friend?
